Swedish Striker Alexander Isak seems poised to leave St James’ Park this summer due to increasing speculation and the player’s announced intentions. With 62 goals in 109 games and a pivotal contribution to Newcastle’s 2025 EFL Cup victory and Champions League qualification, Isak ranks among the most coveted attackers in Europe. 

Although bound by a contract until 2028, the 25-year-old has notified the club of his desire to pursue a transfer, maybe to Liverpool, his favored destination, although interest also arises from Saudi pro league clubs.

Newcastle has consistently maintained that Isak is “not for sale,” with manager Eddie Howe and chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan expressing a commitment to construct the team around him. 

Reports indicate that the club appraises Isak at £150 million and would entertain offers far above that amount. The striker’s recent choice to decline participation in the pre-season tour to Asia attributed by the club to a thigh injury has intensified conjecture that this rationale conceals a player-initiated withdrawal related to transfer negotiations.

Isak’s 2024–25 season was remarkable: he scored 23 goals in the Premier League, demonstrating goal-scoring consistency by finding the net in at least five consecutive away matches, a rare accomplishment in Newcastle’s history, and earned the Premier League Player of the Month title for December.

He also scored in Newcastle’s first significant domestic trophy victory in 70 years, the EFL Cup final at Wembley Stadium against Liverpool.

Isak allegedly rejected a lucrative contract extension, seeking up to £300,000 per week, exceeding Newcastle’s offer of £200,000. He’s advocating for a new agreement that aligns with his market value and career aspirations, a request the club approaches with caution due to Financial Fair Play regulations.

Arsenal initially regarded Isak as a primary target but redirected their attention to alternative option, fellow Swede Viktor Gyokeres, due to Newcastle’s resolute position. 

Isak has consistently expressed his fondness for Newcastle and its supporters, characterizing the city as his home and affirming his original dedication to the club’s initiative.
