A woman suspected of torturing her son to death at their Kitengela home and attempting to cover up the murder has been arrested by DCI detectives.

Mercy Mlengeka Mwauli allegedly filed a report at the Kitengela police station on Wednesday at around 7:30 pm.

She claimed her son had fallen off the sofa and sustained head injuries.

"The boy, Sunny Dickens Anjichi, was rushed to the nearby Shalom Hospital, but unfortunately breathed his last as doctors and nurses made frantic efforts to save his life," DCI says.

Woman's lies uncovered

Dick Anjichi Ndubukhile, the boy's father requested for an immediate autopsy which uncovered Mwauli's lies. DCI sleuths were present during the postmortem.

"They discovered that the boy had actually died of severe injuries inflicted on his body. Pathologists established that the minor had severe bruises on the lower limbs. There was also severe bleeding on the upper limbs, the arms, thighs and the head," the investigative agency adds.

Detectives visited their house at Ngewa Apartments, where they interrogated the mother and caretaker. "It was established that the child had been savagely attacked by the mother over an unknown issue," DCI says.

Mwauli was arrested and is in custody awaiting arraignment. She will answer to murder-related charges once investigations are completed.
