Police in Ruai, Njiru sub-County, are looking for a suspect who was allegedly cultivating Marijuana inside his compound.

Acting on intelligence, detectives raided the home in Peusi area where they found two farmhands watering the prohibited crop. The owner of the home has gone into hiding, and police are pursuing several leads in a bid to arrest him, said Njiru sub-County deputy police commander Jackson Sang.

Evidence to the station

Officers from Ruai Police Station uprooted the Marijuana and transported it to the station. A separate nursery of tender Marijuana shoots was destroyed at the site.

"This is very dangerous to our children," said Sang. He cautioned the youth against using Marijuana, saying it ruinous to health.

Residents who spoke to 'TV47 Digital' intimated that smoking and cultivation of Marijuana is rampant in the Eastlands part of Nairobi. "I would like to challenge police officers to conduct door-to-door searches on all these fenced properties; I suspect these walls are hiding deep Marijuan secrets," said one irate woman.

Wajackoyah's manifesto

The public debate on Marijuana has gained currency with the unveiling of  Roots Party presidential candidate George Wajackoyah's manifesto. Wajackoyah has pledged to legalise Marijuana in case he is elected president on August 9.

Police too have upped the ante in fighting the cultivation and trafficking of this outlawed plant. Only recently, a suspect was arrested in Eldoret's Elgon View estate after police discovered an indoors Marijuana farm at his place of residence.
