UDA's Fatuma Achani has been declared winner of the Kwale County gubernatorial contest.
Achani polled 59,674 votes to become the first female governor in the Coast region.
Former Agriculture Principal Secretary Hamadi Boga of ODM Party came second with 53,972 votes.
However, Boga has disputed the results saying, through a statement, that he will file a petition to challenge the outcome of the results.
"We are no longer confident that the gubernatorial results reflect the true outcome of the voting process many Kwaleans participated in unless the anomalies are adequately addressed," reads the statement in part.
The 'BogaSafi' gubernatorial team has raised several concerns of electoral malpractices they say were witnessed across the county.
"Such incidents include the irregular handling of electoral materials such as stamped ballot papers, 37A forms, IEBC stamps, seals for ballot boxes and electronic KIEMS Kits that were found in the hands of IEBC officials even after the polling had been finalized."
The team claims that despite raising the concerns with IEBC officials, they were not addressed hence their decision to proceed to court.
"We appeal to all our supporters and Kwale County residents to keep calm and maintain
peace," the staement concludes.
