Kikuyu: Store watchman and lorry driver conspire with four others to steal 300 gas cylinders
Police officers from Kikuyu, Kiambu County have nabbed 300 stolen gas cylinders and arrested two suspects in connection to the robbery.
Authorities sprang into action following a report by a gas cylinder vendor in the town that his shop had been broken into and all the cylinders stolen.
Confirming the incident, Kikuyu police commander Catherine Ringera said that they have also seized the lorry suspected to have been used in ferrying the heavy loot.
"When they stopped the vehicle, there were six people but four managed to escape," she said.
The shop's night guard and the lorry driver, who are the main suspects in the case, are in custody as they await arraignment with investigations underway.
Speaking to the press on Monday, October 17, David Omondi, ProGas head of security says, "They had loaded quite a considerable number of cylinders in their vehicle, we were missing 302 6kg cylinders we have recovered 301 it seems only one was lost."
Preliminary investigation indicate that the cylinders were being transported to Kariobangi area in Nairobi County.
The owner of the store - where the stolen goods were destined for - is currently on the run with officers linking him to a similar robbery before.
Robbers have been terrorizing Kiambu residents as they call on the authorities to hasten investigations and bring the perpetrators to book.
