    A five-day induction workshop for members of the National Assembly through the Directorates of Departmental Committees, Audit Appropriations and other selective committees failed to start after legislators unanimously walked out protesting failure by Treasury to disburse National Government Constituency Development Funds (NGCDF) and National Government Affirmative fund.

    The legislators say failure by the Treasury to disburse the funds has greatly affected their electorates saying most of the parents rely on the funds to pay school fees.

    The legislators have vowed not to continue with the workshop nor conduct any house business in the National Assembly until the Treasury disburses the funds.

    The members of national Assembly among them Kazungu Tungule (Ganze), Basil Robert (Yatta), Laura Mnyazi (Malindi), Beatrice Elachi (Dagoretti) and Rweidah Obboh (Lamu East) have urged the Treasury to move with speed and solve the stalemate.

    On matters National Government Affirmative Fund (NGAF), Mombasa Women Representative Zam Zam Mohammed and her Kwale counterpart Fatmah Masito say it has become an uphill task to fulfill the promises they made to electorates attributing it to delay in the funds disbursement.

    Sarah Kioko of the office of the clerk National Assembly said the national assembly is currently running on a constrained budget of financial year 2022/2023.

    The five-day induction program is aimed at equipping members of the national assembly to enable them to execute their mandate with efficiency.
