Former Education CS Prof. George Magoha dies at 71

Immediate former Education Cabinet Secretary Prof. George Magoha is dead.

Magoha, 71, died at the Nairobi Hospital this evening after a cardiac arrest. He collapsed at his home whereupon his wife Dr. Barbara Odudu Essien summoned a close family friend Prof. Walter Mwanda. 

Together with late Prof. Magoha's son Michael Augustus Achianja, Prof. Mwanda tried to resuscitate him after he reportedly collapsed four times. 

Prof. Magoha was rushed to the Nairobi Hospital where he died. 

Magoha had only recently joined Maseno University as a professor of Surgery at the School of Medicine.

He had a long career in the medical and administration fields. He was a former Vice-Chancellor at the University of Nairobi [2005 – 2015] and chairman of the Kenya National Education Council.

In early December, the Magoha family was thrown into mourning after his brother Alex Nyabera Magoha died in Allen, Texas, USA.

Nyabera’s burial is slated for January 28, 2023.

In August 2021, Prof. Magoha’s other brother Charles Agunga died in Sweden.
