A family in Nairobi County is calling for the intervention of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) over the death of their 23-year-old kin.
The deceased, Jeff Mwathi, is said to have jumped from the 12th floor of "Redwood Apartments" building in Safari Park Estate, Nairobi, where mugithi artist Lawrence Njuguna alias DJ Fatxo resides.
The unfortunate incident occurred on February, 22 this year between 5am and 9am.
DJ Fatxo is said to have contacted Mwathi-an interior designer- on referral basis from a friend who was impressed with his work.
On the fateful day, the deceased reached out to his mother, who works in Saudi Arabia, through WhatsApp. He asked for some KSh200 to cater for fare ahead of a meeting with the artist in Ruiru.
"Hee mum nakaa smart nitaenda kupiga picha na yeye," Mwathi said before hanging up.
A few hours later, he made another call to his mother, saying they had met up with DJ Fatxo and had accompanied him to perform along Kiambu Road.
"Amesema ataniekea doh kesho na apo nitakua fiti mum. Atleast nitapata pesa kidogo tubuy manguo na bro," he added.
According to his police statement, DJ Fatxo claimed he spent the day with the deceased as he performed at four bars namely; Bliss, Destiny, Ridgeways and Quiver Lounge.
CCTV footage from the building revealed that the entertainer arrived home at 3am in the company of three women, one man and Mwathi, while another man followed closely behind in another car.
Muchoki Mwathi, the deceased's uncle, claims that two hours later, the artist left with the three women, leaving the men inside.
"The other two men stepped out towards the parking lot, leaving Jeff behind and went back in exactly seven minutes later. That is when we saw Jeff had fallen off from one of the windows. His trouser had dropped to his knees," he narrated.
The artist allegedly returned home at around 9am only to find a scene at the parking lot where Mwathi's body was found.
A postmortem conducted at City Mortuary in Nairobi was scanty, as the pathologist claimed it was difficult to establish whether he had been assaulted. This is because the 72-hour forensic window had lapsed.

A week later after his burial, Mwathi's family is calling for the intervention of Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) into the matter.
They further dismissed claims that the deceased had attempted suicide in 2019 while in the company of his girlfriend.
"That is a false narrative because Jeff did his KCSE that year. He did not come to Nairobi immediately but instead stayed in the countryside for sometime," his uncle said.
