Suspected bandits on Friday morning shot and killed a 12-year-old boy in Cheptet village, West Pokot County.

The killing of Ruto Ng’orianya, a pupil at Tirap Primary School, comes just hours after a similar murder of a Grade 6 pupil at Chesegon area.

The bandits in the latest incident are believed to have been from Kaben location in Marakwet East.

Ruto was reportedly answering a call of nature when he was ambushed by the bandits at around 6am.

Tension remains high along the West Pokot -Elgeyo Marakwet border as the government continues its operation to flush out the bandits.

Local leaders have called on the government to stamp out the bandits menace once and for all.
