Rwanda's President Paul Kagame has hinted at joining the journalism profession after retirement.

He was speaking during a joint media briefing on Tuesday in Kigali, Rwanda alongside President William Ruto.

"I am sure one day I may join journalism in my old age," Kagame said.

He revealed that succession talks within the ruling political party Rwandan Patriotic Front (RPF) have been ongoing since 2010.

"If we are honest we do not want everybody exiting to be the one who decides who comes after them. Since 2010 we have had this discussion within our party, our country but the circumstances in Rwanda tend to dictate certain things that may not be very common with other situations.'

Nonetheless, President Kagame said someone else would eventually take over "as life has to go on".

Kagame, who has been in power for 22 years, was recently re-elected as chair of RPF Party. He will serve for a period of five years.
