Nicolas Jackson will not play against West Ham, Enzo Maresca confirms

Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson has been left out of the squad for the upcoming trip to West Ham, a move that has intensified speculation about his future at the club.

Speaking on Thursday, Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca confirmed the 24-year-old’s absence, stating, “He is available, but he’s not going to be part of the squad”.

Maresca’s comments hint at the ongoing transfer activity, as he noted the club has signed two new strikers and that “something can happen before the transfer window closes”.

While the manager remained tight-lipped about the specifics of a potential move, he admitted his focus was on preparing for the game.

The striker’s future has been a major talking point throughout the transfer window, with Aston Villa reportedly exploring the conditions of a deal. Jackson has a history with Villa’s head coach Unai Emery, having played under him at Villarreal.

Earlier this month, Jackson informed Chelsea he wanted to consider his options, leading to his absence from pre-season friendlies.

Chelsea has already bolstered their attacking line this summer with the signings of Joao Pedro and Liam Delap, adding to the competition for places.

Jackson’s future at Chelsea appears to be linked to the transfer fate of Newcastle’s Alexander Isak, as several clubs are reportedly waiting for clarity on the Swede’s situation before making significant bids.

While Aston Villa are interested, the financial demands of a deal could prove to be a challenge for them. Jackson’s value will ultimately be determined by the market prices for strikers this summer.

In other transfer news, Chelsea are also close to finalising a deal to sell defender Renato Veiga to Villarreal for a reported £26 million.

The club is also facing a decision on Raheem Sterling, with Fulham reportedly interested in the winger. Sterling, who has two years left on his contract, has been training away from the first team.

With the transfer window nearing its close, the movements of players like Jackson, Veiga, and Sterling underscore the significant overhaul currently underway at Stamford Bridge.
