Grief has engulfed a village in Limuru, Kiambu County, after a nine-year-old girl was burnt to death in her family’s house.
The girl, a pupil at Rironi Primary School, was sleeping on Friday, October 24 night when the fire broke out under unclear circumstances.
Limuru Directorate of Criminal Investigations Officer (DCIO) Peter Alenga told TV47 Digital that the girl’s parents were away attending a funeral when the fire started.
Alenga says investigations into the cause of the fire have commenced, urging parents to be cautious during the holiday season.
According to residents who rushed to the scene, the acute water shortage the area is experiencing hampered rescue efforts. They also blamed the county fire brigade department of delayed response.
