No light for Man City at the Stadium of Light

Well, well, well. Manchester City had one job today. ONE JOB. Beat Sunderland at the Stadium of Light, claw back some ground on Arsenal, and keep the English Premier League title race alive. Instead, they completely wasted a golden opportunity against a brilliant Sunderland side, which remains unbeaten at home.

Final score? 0-0.

The gap at the top? Still four points. Arsenal didn’t even have to lace up their boots, and they’ve extended their psychological advantage.

Pep Guardiola’s men had the ball. They had possession. But not a single goal. Sunderland defended like their lives depended on it, and fair play to them, they frustrated the absolute life out of City’s attack. But this is Manchester City we are talking about. The team that is supposed to carve through defenses like a hot knife through butter.

If City thought their day was bad, spare a thought for Liverpool fans. The Reds also drew 0-0, this time with Leeds United at Anfield. Dominated possession, created chances, and walked away with nothing to show for it.

Crystal Palace and Fulham managed a 1-1 draw, with Tom Cairney grabbing a late equalizer for Fulham in stoppage time.

Arsenal are taking their chances this season, grinding out results and applying relentless pressure. Meanwhile, City just handed them another reason to smile.

Pep’s got work to do. Because right now, Arsenal are living rent-free in City’s heads.
