Nominated senator Consolata Wakwabubi champions President Ruto’s re-election

The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) nominated Senator Consolata Wakwabubi from Bungoma County, has called on party members to rally behind President William Ruto’s re-election bid.

Senator Wakwabubi emphasized that strong, credible grassroots structures will be the backbone of the ruling party’s unity, growth and electoral success, as UDA rolls out its nationwide recruitment and grassroots elections.

Speaking during an engagement with UDA supporters from Webuye East and Webuye West sub-counties on Tuesday in Bungoma, the nominated Senator emphasized the need for active participation, transparent internal processes and cohesive leadership at the ward and constituency levels to strengthen the party ahead of future political contests.

Joined by party officials including Winston Wangamati (Bungoma County UDA Office Administrator), Director Lumonje, Jane Rogo and Maxwell Temba, the Senator outlined President William Ruto’s manifesto delivery plan while educating members on the critical role of the ongoing UDA grassroots elections.

“Strong party structures at the grassroots are the foundation of effective leadership and sustained political success,” she said, noting that empowering members to choose leaders who genuinely reflect their aspirations will strengthen the party’s prospects across all levels.

The sensitization drive comes as the ruling party embarks on what has been described as one of the largest internal democratic exercises with thousands of UDA members across the regions registering and voting for local party leadership positions.

This month, UDA conducted grassroots elections in 20 counties covering strongholds in Mt. Kenya, Rift Valley and Western Kenya including Uasin Gishu, Kakamega, Vihiga, Kiambu, Kirinyaga, Meru, Nakuru, Trans Nzoia among other counties.

The elections were characterized by stiff competition at ward and polling-centre levels with hundreds of thousands of aspirants vying for leadership positions as part of efforts to deepen internal party democracy.

In counties such as Vihiga, the polls were reported to have been conducted smoothly, reinforcing the value of participatory democracy and organization at the grassroots.

The party leadership has also announced plans for repeat phase III elections in March 2026, spanning select polling centers across all 42 counties to ensure comprehensive representation.

At the Webuye forum, the Senator highlighted that Bungoma County was decisive in President Ruto’s victory in the last general election, a mandate the party must safeguard through continued engagement, unity and active participation in the electoral process.

“I remind party members that protecting the gains under the Kenya Kwanza administration requires informed participation and unity of purpose,” she said.
