NPS wraps up the 13th Track and Field Championships at Ulinzi Sports Complex

The Ulinzi Sports Complex in Lang’ata was alive with excitement as the National Police Service (NPS) held the 13th edition of its Track and Field Championships

The two-day event that culminated on Wednesday, June 4, 2025 brought together elite athletes from various NPS regions and units, all competing for a coveted spot on the NPS team that will advance to the national qualifiers for Team Kenya, scheduled for June 26–28.

The championships attracted notable athletes with impressive regional and international credentials, including Caroline Nyaga, William Rayan, and World Championships silver medallist Wycliffe Kinyamal.

One of the standout performances of day one came from Abel Kipsang, who dominated the men’s 1500m race representing the Eastern region.

Fresh off his recent victory at the Kip Keino Classic, Kipsang once again demonstrated his exceptional form and endurance.

In the men’s 10,000m, Daniel Simiu Ebenyo, another World Championships silver medallist, lived up to expectations by cruising to victory for the Rift Valley region.

Joseph Kiprono Kiptum of the North Eastern region finished a close second, providing a thrilling contest for spectators.

The tug of war competition, a perennial fan favourite, saw GSU and ASTU teams advance to tomorrow’s final, promising an intense showdown.

Meanwhile, Team Nairobi showcased their strength and coordination by dominating the mixed relay event, which continues to grow in popularity.

The relay requires seamless teamwork between male and female athletes as they pass the baton with speed and precision.
