The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has cancelled the Public Service Vehicle (PSV) endorsements and suspended the driving licenses of more than ninety drivers linked to fatal crashes and serious violations.
In a press statement on 19th January 2026, the Authority announced the immediate suspension of operating licences for four operators and issued a stern 21-day ultimatum to two others to comply with a raft of safety conditions or face a similar ban.
The crackdown follows fatal road crashes reported during the December 2025 festive season, with the NTSA citing the operators’ negligence.
“The Authority in undertaking its mandated has resolved to suspend the operating licenses of the four (4) public transport operators following reports of fatal crashes during the December 2025 festive season,” read part of the notice, “failure to adhere to the requirements of KS. 2295-2023 and non-compliance with various provisions the National Transport and Safety Authority (Operation of PSV Regulations, 2014).”


NTSA further detailed the severe penalties for drivers involved in speed violations and fatal crashes which included licences cancellations.
“The PSV endorsement classes of the drivers involved… are hereby cancelled, and their driving licenses suspended for a period of ninety (90) days, after which they shall be required to undergo a driver re-test,” the statement added.
The affected drivers are spread across the named companies. For The Guardian Coach Limited, linked to a crash on the Nairobi-Naivasha road, the licences of eighteen (18) drivers were suspended. Nanyuki Express Cab Services Ltd, involved in a fatal crash on the Nakuru-Nairobi Highway, had the licences of twenty-six (26) drivers cancelled.
Greenline, also involved in the Nakuru-Nairobi Highway crash, saw twenty-nine (29) drivers lose their PSV endorsements, while Naekana Route 134 Sacco, tied to a crash on the Mombasa-Nairobi Road, had eighteen (18) drivers penalized.
Furthermore, the Authority directed the operators to “immediately disengage” all the cited drivers from all driving duties, the statement added.
While The Guardian Coach and Nanyuki Express have been given 21 days to comply with vehicle inspections and other directives, the operations of Monna Comfort Sacco, Greenline Company Ltd, and Naekana Route 134 Sacco Ltd have been suspended outright. A sixth operator, Uwezo Coast Shuttle, was also suspended for failing to honour an NTSA summons.

The NTSA has also imposed stringent night travel safety conditions and statutory requirements on all the listed operators.
“The Authority shall conduct safety compliance audits on the Operators before their licenses are reinstated,” the statement noted.
NTSA has also advised members of the public not to board vehicles belonging to the suspended Saccos/Companies.
The Traffic Department has been advised to impound vehicles belonging to the listed Saccos/Companies found operating contrary to the suspension.
