NTSA suspends operating licenses for Bungoma Line, Smart Highways Saccos

NTSA suspends licences of matatu saccos

NTSA officials sensitising matatu Sacco operators on road safety in Kisii town.

The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has suspended operating licenses of Bungoma Line Safari Ltd and Smart Highway Sacco Ltd.

The authority says that the two matatu Saccos have been suspended after they failed to comply with several NTSA Regulations.

“The suspensions were necessitated by the saccos failure to comply with provisions of Section 5 of the NTSA ( Operation of PSV) Regulations, 2014 and analysis of speed data violations that were compiled through the NTSA Intelligent Road Safety Management System (IRSMS),” the authority says in a statement dated March 29, 2024.

Consequently, NTSA now wants the two Saccos to comply with all the requirements and regulations, before presenting their vehicles for inspection.

“In its decision, the Authority expects the saccos to comply with all the requirements of the Traffic Act, the PSV Regulations and present their vehicles for compliance inspection to establish their roadworthiness and to confirm the functionality of the installed speed limiters,” NTSA added.
