There was unrest at the Nyahururu County Referral Hospital’s Emergency Department on Thursday night after a family raised concerns over the absence and negligence of the attending doctor.

The issue arose when the family sought urgent medical attention for their child, who had been critically injured in a road accident near Riverside Mall along the busy Nyahururu-Olkalou road.

Warris Wang’ombe, the child’s father, recounted receiving the distressing news about an accident involving his wife and two children that left his younger child, a four year old critically injured.

Upon rushing to the hospital for emergency care, he discovered that no doctor was present. Desperate for help, he together with his friends began making calls to seek assistance.

To his dismay, an intern nurse was sent and arrived three hours later and was the nurse was ineffectual to provide assistance even basic first aid for the severely injured child, leaving the father hopeless as he watched his child endure pain and suffering.

Later on, the nurse referred them to a nearby private hospital in the middle of the night to seek the urgent emergency care they were waiting for 3 hours.

The Thursday night happenings has raised serious concerns and outrage from the public questioning the quality of services at the hospital, which hold a Level 5 status.
