Film and video director Ken Heman is facing serious allegations of domestic abuse after his wife, Nyambura Mburu, took to Instagram to share graphic images and an emotional account of the violence she claims to have endured throughout their 13-year marriage.
Nyambura revealed details and photos showing visible physical injuries allegedly inflicted by her husband. The images included: A red, bloodshot eye, a swollen lump on the side of her forehead ,swollen thighs with bruise marks, redness and bruising under her eye, a broken TV and a destroyed socket, torn electric cables, which she claimed were used to beat her.
Nyambura poured out her pain in a deeply emotional message, “I was 19 when you met me, you were 9 years older than me. I would have been anything you needed me to be… but instead you made me an abuse survivor. You destroyed me. I didn’t deserve any of it. For 13 years I kept the smile while dying behind closed doors… until one day you kicked my babies out of my womb and they ended in NICU. They survived you too…”
Nyambura went on to describe how she endured beatings with electric cables, belts, and hangers, and even walked down the aisle on her wedding day with bruises concealed under makeup. “I lied for years because you made me believe you would change… But that wasn’t enough. The countless affairs, the cheating… I did not deserve that… but even then I survived. Only God knows how…”
Her post triggered a lot of reactions from social media users, including fellow content creators and public figures.
Popular food content creator Ryach Gitau, known online as Pika na Ryach, expressed outrage through a video stating , “Why do you even talk about God when we meet, and this is how you’ve been treating your wife?” She later added in a comment, “I’m so angry. Buy a punching bag, bro.”
Digital creator Brian Mwenda also commented on, and said “Ukifika mahali unapiga mama, wewe ni failure.”
Another creator, Richie Branson, also commented and said, “There’s nothing masculine about a man who raises his fist to strike a woman.”
As of now, Ken Heman has not issued a public statement addressing the allegations. It is unclear whether legal action has been taken, but the online community is demanding justice and accountability.
This incident has brought up conversations about gender-based violence, especially within marriages, and the urgent need to protect survivors and hold abusers accountable, regardless of their status or profession.
