Nyamira Governor Amos Nyaribo and his Kisii counterpart Simba Arati resolve to unite Gusii region

Nyamira Governor Amos Nyaribo and his Kisii counterpart Simba Arati have resolved to work together in propelling the interests of the Gusii Community.

Speaking on Sunday December 21, 2025 at the home of Kisii Governor at Motonto, the two leaders said unity of purpose is key in negotiating for development from the National Government, complementing the allocations to counties.

The two leaders were addressing delegations from the two counties.

“We share the same heritage. When Omogusii is united, we are stronger. Boundaries are useless; we are one. If we approach President William Ruto for a project, he will give us,” Governor Nyaribo said.

Governor Nyaribo said the recent impeachment against him, which flopped at the Senate, was not based on issues, but a strategy to eliminate him from the ballot in 2027.

“They want to remove me from the office so that we do not meet at the ballot in 2027. I have called for talks (with Nyamira MCAs, but they have refused to come. I will not be shaken,” the Nyamira County boss stated.

On the other hand, Governor Simba Arati said Governor Nyaribo, as the senior most elected leader at the county, has a responsibility of protecting the interests of the Gusii community.

“When he (Nyaribo) faced the impeachment,  I had to stand with him. After the failed impeachment, I have called the Nyamira MCAs who were propelling the oust initiative to let Nyamira County move forward,” Governor Arati said.

The Kisii County boss said governors have more to benefit by working with the government of the day.

“I was in opposition for 18 years. It was very hard to even get a road project. As long as my people asked me to work with President Ruto, I will do so,” he said.

He said in 2026, the two governors will host representatives from the two counties at Gusii Stadium for a consultation and  declaration, defining the way forward for the Gusii Community.

“We must give direction to our people. We will work together for a better Gusii,” Governor Simba said.

With over 1.1 million votes in the two counties, the Gusii Community has a big say at the ballot in 2027, Governor Arati said.
