A serious dispute has erupted between the Machakos County Government and media personality Oga Obinna (Steve Thompson Magana) following claims of a massive unpaid debt aired on his show.
The county’s Office of the County Attorney has now issued a formal challenge, demanding that the YouTuber produce evidence to substantiate the claim.
The controversy highlights the increasing scrutiny over the standards of verification required for content aired on high-profile digital platforms.
The controversy stems from an episode of “The Obinna Show Live” that aired around November 10, 2025. The show, captioned “OBINNA SHOW LIVE: WHEN POLITICS CRUSHES DREAMS | SAMMY KIOKO’S HEARTBREAKING STORY”, featured comedian Sammy Kioko.
During the interview, Kioko broke down as he opened up about his struggles with the Machakos County Government, he accused the county of failing to pay a Ksh 19 million bill owed to him and he stated the delayed payment has left him unable to fund his projects or support his sick business partner, who requires treatment in India.
The letter demands that Oga Obinna supply the records or evidence to prove that the money is indeed owed to Sammy Kioko. The letter was addressed directly to Oga Obinna.
The County Attorney referenced the legal framework governing public finance:
“By law, the County Government is empowered to procure for services and goods… and further to keep a record of all registered suppliers and their directors and contact persons.”
This effectively challenges Obinna to prove that Kioko was a registered supplier who transacted business with the county, as published on the show.
The dispute has put a sharp focus on the level of verification that digital media personalities must undertake when broadcasting claims against public institutions.
Oga Obinna is now tasked with producing the official documentation to support the claims made by his guest. This looming legal confrontation could set a new standard for accountability in online content creation across Kenya.
