Oburu Odinga condemns graveyard disrespect: “Respect the dead”

In a firm and emotionally charged statement, Siaya Senator Oburu Odinga has condemned the actions of a group of rowdy youths who reportedly forced their way to Raila Odinga’s grave and danced with flowers laid in his honor.

Speaking at Kang’o Ka Jaramogi where Raila was laid to rest, Oburu expressed deep disappointment over the incident, calling it a violation of cultural norms and a dishonor to the memory of the departed.

“Respect the dead… Respect the graveyard,” he said solemnly. “It is not our culture to mock the dead. Such behavior can lead to a curse.”

The incident, which has sparked widespread outrage, is seen as a breach of sacred tradition and communal decency.

Oburu urged the youth to reflect on their actions and uphold the dignity of the departed.

“Behave well and do not repeat it again,” he warned, invoking ancestral wisdom and the spiritual consequences of desecrating burial grounds.

The Odinga family, known for its deep cultural roots and national legacy, has called for calm and respect as they continue to mourn Raila Odinga, whose passing marked the end of an era in Kenyan politics and public life.
