Gor Mahia’s impressive January resurgence has earned individual accolades, with right-back Paul Ochuoga and head coach Charles Akonnor named the SportPesa Premier League Player and Coach of the Month respectively.
K’Ogalo won five of their six league matches during the period, stretching their lead at the summit to four points ahead of arch-rivals AFC Leopards, who still have a game in hand.
Ochuoga emerged as a key figure in Gor’s charge, delivering consistent performances down the right flank.
The 21-year-old academy graduate registered five goal involvements scoring once and providing three assists the highest attacking return recorded during the month.
“This award means a lot to me because it reflects the work we put in as a team,” Ochuoga said. “I dedicate it to my coaches, teammates and our fans who constantly push us to remain the best in a highly competitive league.”
For his efforts, the youngster pocketed KSh50,000 and received a customized trophy courtesy of SportPesa.
AFC Leopards defender Kaycie Odhiambo finished second in the player category after helping Ingwe keep three clean sheets in five outings and netting a decisive goal against Sofapaka.
Head coach Charles ‘CK’ Akonnor claimed his second monthly accolade, having previously won the award in October 2025.
The Ghanaian tactician had faced mounting pressure in December after Gor managed just one win in five matches, sparking calls from sections of fans for his exit. However, he oversaw a dramatic turnaround at the start of the new year.
“January was demanding, but the players responded well to our ideas,” Akonnor said. “We are building something, and this recognition shows that the work by the technical bench is taking shape.”
Akonnor received KSh75,000 and a customized trophy for guiding Gor to the best record in the league during the month an 83 percent win rate, 15 goals scored, only four conceded and three clean sheets from six matches.
AFC Leopards head coach Fred Ambani was named runner-up after steering his side to an 80 percent win rate while conceding just two goals in five matches.
