The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party secretary general Edwin Sifuna is now accusing President William Ruto’s administration of failing to meet the demands of the political pact signed between ODM and the ruling party, United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
According to Sifuna, the agreement that was signed in March 2025, focused on ending violation of human rights as well as demanding for economic reprieve in the country.
Speaking in Vihiga on Saturday June 14, 2025 during the burial ceremony of Mama Catherine Kivai, spouse to Vihiga MP Ernest Kagesi, Nairobi County Senator Edwin Sifuna stated that the pact, which is anchored on a 10 Point Agenda is as well as dead, following what he terms as continued gross violation of human rights in the country including abductions and extra judicial killings.
“The situation currently in the country requires actions from the Government, the agreement we signed with UDA is of no use as we speak today. Why was Albert Ojwang picked from his home in Homa Bay, only to be killed while in police custody in Nairobi?” said Sifuna.
Senator Sifuna says that these violations of human rights have continued under the watch of key government institutions, which are mandated to protect the people.
Additionally, ODM Deputy Party Leader and Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi called for the immediate resignation of Deputy Inspector General of Police Eliud Lagat, terming his continued stay as a hindrance to a free and fair probe into the reported murder of teacher/blogger Albert Ojwang’.
