ODM chair defends Sifuna ouster, backs broad-based government

‎The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has continued to grapple with internal divisions, with the party’s National Chairperson Gladys Wanga clarifying the decision to remove Edwin Sifuna as Secretary General.‎

‎Speaking in Ndhiwa Constituency during an initiative dubbed “Ondoa Kaunda” aimed at constructing new ECDE classrooms, Wanga said the party could not retain an SG who publicly speaks contrary to positions agreed upon by party organs.

‎‎Wanga noted that ODM’s leadership must speak with one voice, adding that internal discipline is critical for the party’s unity and direction.

“A party official must say what the party has agreed on, and that is why as ODM we decided to kick out Sifuna.

“We cannot progress as a party when the secretary general speaks the opposite of party resolutions,” said Gladys Wanga.

‎‎She further affirmed that the party is unapologetic about its support for the broad-based government arrangement, insisting that the decision was made after wide consultations and remains in the best interest of the country.

‎‎The remarks come amid ongoing debates within ODM over leadership, party loyalty and its current political strategy.
