ODM kicks out Secretary General Edwin Sifuna

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party has kicked out Secretary General Edwin Sifuna during the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Mombasa.

Meanwhile, the party has appointed Busia County Woman Representative Catherine Omanyo to take over Sifuna’s position in acting capacity.

Shortly after ODM resolved to kick out Sifuna on Wednesday February 11, 2026, the party posted on its official X account, emphasizing that the changes were effected immediately.

“Party National Executive Committee meeting in Mombasa today has resolved to relieve SG Edwin Sifuna of his responsibilities with immediate effect.

Effectively, Hon. Catherine Omanyo who is one of the Deputy Secretary General, will act in this position until a substantive holder of the office will be elected,” read part of ODM statement.

This comes amid ongoing negotiations between ODM and the ruling party, UDA ahead of the 2027 General Elections.

The NEC also reviewed recent developments within the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition, noting with concern that certain coalition partners have acted in violation of the Deed of Agreement that established the Coalition.

“In light of these sustained breaches and in order to safeguard the integrity, autonomy, and strategic direction of ODM, the NEC resolved to initiate the formal process of withdrawal from the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition in accordance with the applicable legal and constitutional provisions,” read part of the ODM statement.
