ODM members cry foul over lack of transparency ahead of nominations for Ugunja by-elections

A section of ODM party members in Ugunja constituency have expressed frustration as concerns mount over lack of transparency in the preparations for the party’s nomination exercise slated for Friday September 24, 2025.

Speaking on behalf of the disgruntled members, Emanuel Odhiambo voiced frustration over what he described as murky and disorganized preparations.

With just two days left before the primaries, Odhiambo noted that critical details surrounding the exercise remain unclear, fueling suspicion and unease among party supporters.

He expressed concern over alleged plans by one of the candidates to manipulate the nomination process, claiming they had credible information about a scheme to transport voters from outside Ugunja to influence the outcome.

Odhiambo further revealed that there are intentions to use college students to disrupt the exercise and therefore urged the ODM elections board to take proactive measures to safeguard the integrity of the process and ensure the security of all voters.

Mary Nyaudo, a supporter of one of the aspirants Otieno Alur, voiced her dismay over threats reportedly issued by rival camps.

Despite the intimidations, she appealed for calm and urged all parties to uphold peace for the smooth conduct of the nominations.

Separately, Eng. Fredrick ZB Owino who is one the aspirants reiterated his stance that only a verified list of registered voters from Ugunja should be used during the nomination exercise.

He emphasized the importance of transparency and fairness in the process.

ODM nomination for the Ugunja parliamentary seat has drawn three contenders including Moses Omondi, Otieno Alur, and Eng. Fredrick ZB Owino.

Ugunja MP seat fell vacant after the resignation of Opiyo Wandayi, who was appointed as Cabinet Secretary for Energy.
