The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) has provided a set guidelines to help identify potential of human trafficking victims urging Kenyans to remain vigilant.
The campaign comes up as a broader part to help combat human trafficking across all boarders.
The ODPP says that victims may show signs of physical behavior or torture or signs of violence that shows distress.
Victims may also show of signs fear to law enforcement or local authorities which makes them not to come forward to ask for help.
According to the ODPP victims may give rehearsed answers or seem unsure of the basic facts about their lives or job.
”Victims may not be aware of their surroundings” ODPP stated further.
More signs show that victims may be underpaid or unpaid or they may be experiencing some form of intimidation or are being threatened thus preventing them from asking for help.
”Victims may have inappropriate documents e.g. travelling for work without tourist visa ,” said ODPP.
In many instances their identification documents have been taken away by traffickers, making it harder for them to for seek help.
” Victims may show signs of controlled movement and isolation and may not be aware of their surrounding.”
ODPP emphasized that may show signs of anxiousness and they may be reluctant to seek help or speak freely.
ODPP is calling on members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspected trafficking cases through proper channels, as they will play a major role by reporting.
