The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) has rolled out the fourth edition of the 160 Girls Defilement Prosecution Training, a specialized program aimed at sharpening the handling of child sexual offence cases.
The four-day training, officially opened on 29th September 2025 by Ag. Secretary of Public Prosecutions Mr. Alloys Kemo, OGW, brings together 30 prosecutors from across the country.
Representing the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Mr. Kemo underscored the need for prosecutors to center survivors in their work.
“Let this training not only refine your prosecutorial tools, but strengthen your resolve to pursue justice for child victims with trauma-informed sensitivity,” he told participants during the launch.
Now a cornerstone of the ODPP’s broader child protection and gender-based violence strategy, the program equips prosecutors with advanced legal, social, and psychological tools to ensure justice for survivors of defilement is both timely and compassionate.
Delivered in partnership with The Equality Effect, the initiative has already benefited more than 130 prosecutors nationwide.
National Coordinator Kula Wako reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to the program, calling it a powerful step toward protecting vulnerable children.
The training covers 12 intensive modules, ranging from Kenya’s legal framework on defilement, the integration of equality principles in prosecutions, trauma awareness, collaboration with investigators, and strategies for handling sensitive cases in court.
By merging professional rigor with a trauma-informed approach, the ODPP hopes to strengthen accountability while safeguarding the dignity and rights of child survivors.
