Omtatah calls Affordable Housing Project a ‘personal venture’

Busia Senator Okiyah Omtatah has dismissed President William Ruto’s recent self-appraisal as a display of “narcissism” and accused the Head of State of lacking integrity.

Speaking during an interview on Wednesday August 6, 2025, the Busia senator, who has declared his presidential ambitions, also alleged that the government’s flagship housing initiative is a personal business venture for the president.

He argued that while President Ruto may possess the educational background and political experience to hold office, he fundamentally lacks the integrity required to lead the nation.

“He only talked about qualifications,” Omtatah stated, referring to Ruto’s claim of embodying the best qualities of his predecessors. “He never mentioned integrity. If he is allowed to continue leading, Kenya will become a ‘basket case’.”

The senator was particularly critical of the government’s affordable housing project, a cornerstone of the Kenya Kwanza administration’s agenda.

According to Omtatah, the initiative is not a genuine development plan but rather a scheme designed to benefit President Ruto’s business interests.

He alleged that the project serves as a “market for building materials in which the president has heavily invested.”

His remarks come as President Ruto marks his third year in office, a period characterized by intense public debate over his economic policies and leadership style.

The senator’s fiery comments, are likely to intensify political tensions as the country approaches its next general election.

The interview concluded with Senator Omtatah promising to delve into other critical issues, including corruption, the rule of law, and national debt, in future segments.

His remarks are a clear indication of a political battle heating up, with potential rivals beginning to mount public attacks on the incumbent president’s record and character.
