One person has been confirmed dead following a fatal road accident that occurred at Sultan Hamud in Makueni County along the busy Mombasa–Nairobi Highway.
The accident involved a Toyota Prado V8, which collided head-on with a trailer traveling from Mombasa.
Confirming the incident, Sultan Hamud Traffic Base Commander Patrick Mwando stated that at the time of the accident, the Prado was traveling from Nairobi towards the general Mombasa area and was carrying four occupants.
One passenger died on the spot, while the remaining three sustained serious injuries.
The injured victims were initially rushed to Kilome Nursing Home in Emali for emergency treatment before being airlifted by helicopter to Nairobi for specialized medical care.
Both vehicles involved in the crash have since been towed to Sultan Hamud Police Station as investigations continue.
Authorities have indicated that the cause of the accident is yet to be established.
Police have urged motorists to exercise caution while using the highway, especially given the high traffic volume along the route during this festive season.
