According to reports, the three officers were ambushed by an unidentified gang at around 1:29 a.m. One officer succumbed to gunshot wounds at the scene, while the other two sustained injuries and are currently receiving treatment at the Nakuru Level Five Hospital.
So far, the police have apprehended seven suspects and recovered an AK-47, with three cartridges. With ongoing investigations, the incident has raised concerns about the safety of law enforcement officers and the prevalence of armed gangs in the region.
“A combined force of officers from Nakuru and a Special team from DCI headquarters continued to pursue the thugs and managed to trace them to a lodging in Tahidis area down town Nakuru at around 0730hrs, and arrested four main suspects among them a woman.
“The suspects led the officers to a location along KANU Street where they recovered an AK47 rifle which they have been using in their operations, with three (3) rounds of ammunition,” read part of the police report.
This tragic event adds to a series of violent incidents in Nakuru involving both police officers and civilians. In recent months, there have been reports of police officers involved in shootings and other violent altercations.
Meanwhile, residents have been urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities as investigations continue.
