The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has effected sweeping leadership changes following a Speacial Deligate Convention (SDC) that saw Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi removed as deputy party leader and replaced by Simba Arati, Kisii Governor and Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir.
Osotsi’s outster came after he failed to secure a proposer and a seconder for his position during the convention proceedings, on March 27, 2026, effectively locking him out of the race and sealing his removal from influencial post. The development underscored shifting political tides within ODM and exposed the delicate internal dynamics shaping the paty’s leadership.

In a contrast, Arati and Nassir sailed through the process, receiving overwhelming backing from delegates who ratified them as the new deputy party learders.
The elevation is seen as part of ODM’s broader strategy to inject fresh energy into its top ranks while strenghtening its regional and national appeal.
The changes are part of the wider restructing effort by the party aimed at consolidating unity and preparing for the future political contests. Observers note that the inclusion of Arati and Nassir -both serving governors with strong grassroots support-positions ODM to better connect with key voting blocs scross the counrty.

Osotsi, a long serving member of the party and a prominent voice in Western Kenya politics, now faces an uncertain political path within ODM following his dramatic exit from the leadership.
The SDC resolution signals a new chapter for ODM as it seeks to redifine its leadershipand maintain its influence in Kenya’s evolving political landscape ahead of the next general election.
