Officials of the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) in Homa Bay have raised security concerns, claiming they are being trailed by unidentified individuals following a failed union election earlier this month.
KUPPET Homa Bay Executive Secretary Stephen Yogo and Chairperson Jack Okoth reported the matter to the police, saying unknown people have been following them since the aborted poll. Teachers in the county were scheduled to elect new union officials on January 10, but the exercise was disrupted after election materials were destroyed.

Yogo said his life is at risk, alleging that the individuals trailing him even took photographs while he was driving. He reported the incident at Homa Bay Police Station on Friday last week.
Okoth accused some teachers of being behind the chaos that led to the botched election, claiming they failed to follow electoral laws and instead resorted to violence to influence the outcome.

Despite the setback, some candidates, are said to be continuing with seeking for votes as they await the announcement of a new election date.
