Over 500 people displaced by floods in Karachuonyo constituency

Floods have displaced over 500 people in Karachuonyo Constituency, Homa Bay County, after River Kibuon burst its banks following heavy rainfall in the region.

The affected families, drawn from Osodo area in Wang’chieng Ward and the villages of Kosdano, Kamuga, and Nyaola in Central Karachuonyo Ward, woke up to flooded homes as the river burst its banks, submerging homes, farms, and livestock shelters.

In the wake of the disaster, many have sought refuge at Simbi Kogembo Dispensary, which now serves as a temporary shelter.

Samuel Omondi from the Homa Bay County Red Cross confirmed the displacement and highlighted the dire conditions of the affected families.

He is now calling on government agencies and well-wishers to come to the aid of the victims, warning that without quick intervention, the situation could worsen.

The rain, now in its third consecutive day, continue to pose a threat to more communities in the region.
