Parliament embraces AI to reach out to Kenyan youth

As preparations for Mombasa Agricultural Show is underway, the Parliament of Kenya is set to participate and showcase how it works and connects with people.

The parliament, while embracing AI, targets to reach the younger generations who have embraced technology.

For instance, paperwork has been reduced in Parliament and most of its content is found online. In addition, most Kenyans are in the X- Space and reaching them is the main priority for parliament.

According to the Parliamentary Service Commission (PSC), AI is reducing the cost and helping achieve the digital objective of interacting with Kenyans online.

During the Mombasa ASK show, Parliament will be showcasing practically the use of chamber debates.

To achieve this,  four schools from the coastal region have been invited to debate on thematic areas relating to climate change.

The debates will be on Wednesday 3rd August 2025 and Friday 5th August 2025 and Kenyans have been invited to come and see how Parliament operates.

The government institution will have Round Media Table during the show and they have invited members of the  Agriculture Committee, Broadcasting Committee and the Parliamentary Service Commission to discuss matters that relate to this year’s theme for the International ASK, “Promoting Climate Smart Agriculture and Trade Initiatives for Sustainable Economic Growth.”

This will be discussed in relation to the coast region and how climate change is affecting people at the coast.

The Round Media Table will still be operational even after the Mombasa show and this will help create awareness and educate masses on how parliament operates. Public participation will be taking place during the round table as well.

At the same time, history of the Kenyan Parliament and how it has evolved over the years will also be discussed at the show.

For example parliament comprised of 7 members in 1907 and currently, there are 349 members of the National Assembly. Kenyans will get to know how legislation affects the sustainability of the Kenyan economy.

This Parliament exhibitions, will take place in all ASK shows across the country to reduce the number of students visiting the National Assembly chambers in Nairobi and educate them locally on how Parliament works.
