Passaris demands justice for the brutal murder of 18-year-old Abigail Wanjiku

Following the brutal murder of 18-year-old Abigail Wina Wanjiku, Nairobi Women representative, Esther Passaris, has called for swift arrest and prosecution of those responsible.

In a statement shared on her X account on Saturday, June 21, Passaris expressed her sadness, saying what happened to Abigail is not only a crime, but also a violation of our shared humanity.

“Last night, 18-year-old Abigael Wina Wanjiku was raped and brutally murdered in Mwiki, Phase 3. She was stabbed five times. Her life stolen. Her family shattered. Her community in mourning. This is not just a crime it is a violation of our shared humanity,” she said.

Along with demanding the swift arrest of the perpetrator(s), Passaris demanded sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) response units, along with protection for women and girls in neighbourhoods.

“We demand: Swift arrest and prosecution of the perpetrator(s), protection for women and girls across all neighborhoods, fully resourced sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) response units. Respect. Dignity. Justice. For every survivor.”

Abigail Wina Wanjiku was brutally assaulted, murdered, and her badly mutilated body was found in her home in Mwiki, Nairobi on Thursday night, June 19.

The police say Abigail was murdered by unknown persons while she was home alone.

Kasarani Sub-County Criminal Investigations Officer (SCCIO) confirmed that Abigael’s skull had been broken on the forehead, she had suffered five stab wounds to the stomach, as well as deep cuts to her neck and right ear.

While arrests regarding this case are yet to be made, a special team has been set up to investigate the wave of brutal attacks targeting women across Kenya, identify the causes, and provide solutions.
