Pathologist confirms blunt force trauma as cause of death for Cyrus Jirongo

Independent pathologist Dr. Andrew Ndung’u, representing the family of the late former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo, has released a post-mortem report confirming that the veteran politician died from multiple blunt force trauma.

The findings, released following an autopsy conducted on Thursday 17th December, provide a grim look into the high-impact head-on collision that occurred on the Nakuru–Naivasha highway.

According to Dr. Ndung’u, the injuries were extensive and consistent with a massive vehicular impact. The autopsy detailed severe internal damage to the thoracic and abdominal cavities, which likely led to fatal internal hemorrhaging.

The report also highlighted significant spinal injuries, illustrating the violent force exerted on Jirongo’s body as his vehicle was displaced approximately 25 meters upon impact.

Furthermore, the former lawmaker suffered multiple fractures and soft tissue injuries to his legs, alongside severe head trauma that caused his immediate death at the scene.

These medical findings largely corroborate the forensic timeline presented by DCI Boss Mohamed Amin. The absence of penetrating wounds or suspicious marks reinforces the DCI’s conclusion that the December 13 crash was a “purely accidental” event, dismissing earlier whispers of foul play.

The family, who sought the independent autopsy for clarity and closure, is now shifting focus to funeral arrangements.

The DCI has noted that investigations are at the “tail end” as they finalize the file for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The former YK92 chairman is scheduled to be buried on December 30, 2025, at his Lumakanda home in Kakamega County.
