Police in Eldoret have arrested a man suspected of running a phone hacking operation after raiding his home in Kimumu, Turbo Sub-County, Uasin Gishu County.
Officers rushed in on the suspect’s residence and made a significant haul during their search. They found thirteen mobile phones that are believed to be stolen, along with five HP laptops loaded with phone flashing tools and software used to unlock and reprogram devices.
The suspect is now being held at Eldoret Police Station as investigators piece together the full extent of his alleged activities.
Detectives believe the recovered laptops were being used to bypass security features on stolen phones, making them easier to resell or use without being traced.
All the seized items have been taken in as evidence and will be used to build the case against the suspect.
Police say they’re working to identify the owners of the recovered phones and link them to reported theft cases in the area.
The accused will be taken to court once investigations wrap up.
This arrest comes as part of ongoing efforts by local police to tackle the rising problem of phone theft and cybercrime in the region, which has been affecting many residents who have fallen victim to such schemes.
