Siaya Community Digital Hub opens in Bondo to expand digital access

The government on Sunday, March 8 launched the Siaya Community Digital Hub in Bondo, Siaya County, marking another step in expanding digital access and opportunities for youth and entrepreneurs across the region.

The launch was presided over by President William Ruto.

William Kabogo, the Cabinet Secretary in the Ministry of Information, Principal Secretary Stephen Isaboke, State Department for Broadcasting and Telecommunication and Principal Secretary John Tanui, State Department for ICT and Digital Economy, were among the dignitaries who joined ODM Party Leader, Senator Dr. Oburu Oginga in welcoming the President during the launch.

The hub is expected to empower young people with digital skills while opening new pathways for innovation, entrepreneurship and employment as the country continues to expand digital infrastructure and services across communities.

The facility will provide internet connectivity, digital training and access to online services, while also supporting initiatives such as Studio Mashinani, a government programme designed to decentralise content creation and media production by giving young people and local creatives access to digital production facilities at the grassroots level.

The initiative is expected to nurture local talent, strengthen community storytelling and expand participation in Kenya’s growing digital and creative economy.

Thereafter, the leaders also joined President Ruto in the homecoming ceremony for Medical Services PS Ouma Oluga in Okela Secondary School in Rarieda, Siaya County.
