Pierre Fabre and Groupe Ethica announce strategic expansion into Kenya with Avène and Ducray

Pierre Fabre, one of the world’s leading dermo-cosmetic and pharmaceutical groups, together with its exclusive African partner Groupe Ethica, has officially launched Avène and Ducray in Kenya.

The entry of the two dermatology powerhouses marks a major milestone in East Africa’s fast-growing skincare sector and is endorsed by the Kenya Association of Dermatologists (KAD), who attended a healthcare professional launch event held on 27 November 2025.

The partnership brings Pierre Fabre’s global dermatological expertise into the Kenyan market through Groupe Ethica, strengthening the continent’s access to clinically validated, dermatologist-backed skincare solutions.

The global dermo-cosmetics skin care products market was valued at approximately USD 52.12 billion in 2021, and is projected to expand to around USD 92.83 billion by 2030, representing a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of about 7.5 % from 2022 to 2030.

The Kenyan skin-care sector has been growing at double-digit levels as demand for science-led, dermatology-informed skincare rises, supported by improved specialist access and a rapidly health-aware youth demographic.

“Kenya is one of the most dynamic dermatology markets on the continent, making Pierre Fabre’s partnership with Groupe Ethica a significant step forward for dermo-cosmetics in Africa. The endorsement from the Kenya Association of Dermatologists also affirms the relevance of Avène and Ducray for Kenyan consumers seeking high-quality, evidence-based skincare,” said Rosemary Ayieko, the Head of East Africa, Groupe Ethica.

Kenya has emerged as East Africa’s anchor market for medical-grade skincare, with pharmacies, dermatology clinics and hospitals playing a central role in category adoption. Together, Avène and Ducray bring more than three centuries of dermatological science, medical collaboration, and pharmacy-led innovation to Kenyan consumers.

Avène, the world’s No.1 dermo-cosmetic brand for sensitive skin in European pharmacies, enters East Africa with its 275-year heritage rooted in its legendary Thermal Spring Water and over 150 clinical studies.

“Kenya is one of Africa’s most exciting and fast-evolving skincare markets for us. We are committed to offering clinically proven solutions that soothe, repair, and protect sensitive and reactive skin especially in warm, humid equatorial conditions,” said Marcello Alagna, Marketing & Exports Director for Africa, Middle East and Turkey (AFMET) at Pierre Fabre Group.

The Kenyan market will receive hero ranges extensively validated for local climatic needs and common skin-health concerns, including four Avène brands, Cleanance, Hydrance, Cicalfate+, and the award winning TriAsorB™ SPF 50+.

Ducray, founded in 1930, is globally recognised for its medical-grade solutions for acne, eczema, hyperpigmentation, hair loss, and scalp disorders. The Ducray range includes Keracnyl, Dexyane, Icytane, Anaphase+, and Melascreen.

“For nearly a century, Ducray has advanced dermatological science to help people live comfortably and confidently. Our expansion into Kenya responds to growing demand for targeted, dermatologist-endorsed skincare and we look forward to ground breaking collaboration with healthcare professionals across the region,” added Alagna.

Immediately available from leading pharmacies and selected hospitals across Kenya, the launch ensures wide and safe access to dermatologist-approved skincare products for patients and consumers throughout the country.

Both brands reaffirmed their long-term commitment to Kenya’s skin-health ecosystem including partnerships with beauty practitioners, dermatologists, pharmacists, hospitals, medical institutions, and professional associations, to strengthen skin-health literacy and ensure safe, effective skincare pathways for all consumers.
