A conglomerate of parties under the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition are calling for the immediate resignation of National Assembly Minority Leader Junet Mohamed.
Led by National Liberal Party leader Dr. Augustus Kyalo Muli, the parties argue that Junet’s continued stay in office undermines the coalition’s credibility and dishonors the legacy of its founding leaders.
A statement by the over 10 parties accuses Junet of reckless and defamatory utterances that slander the name and legacy of former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
“His Excellency Uhuru Kenyatta served the nation with dignity, protected Kenya’s territorial integrity, upheld national cohesion, and shepherded a peaceful transition of power. Any attempt to diminish that record, is dishonest and an affront to millions of Kenyans.”

Beyond rhetoric, the National Liberal Party and the other Azimio constituent parties point to unresolved concerns over the mismanagement of agents’ funds allocated for the 2022 General Elections. They claim these failures critically weakened grassroots operations, compromised electoral vigilance, and directly contributed to the coalition’s repeated losses in its presidential bid.
Pointing fingers at Junet, the parties say “Such conduct goes beyond incompetence and reflects a pattern of internal sabotage that eroded trust at crucial moments. In light of these developments we call for the immediate retirement of Junet Mohamed from all Azimio leadership positions.”
They have formally requested former President Uhuru Kenyatta to convene a consultative meeting of all Azimio‑affiliated parties to chart a new leadership path following the demise of Raila Odinga, the exit of Martha Karua, and the desired resignation of Junet Mohamed.
They insist that Azimio, which was born on March 12, 2022 out of unity, reforms, and democratic aspirations, must now cleanse itself of actions and actors that work against its destiny.
The purpose of the meeting to be convened by Kenyatta, they say, must be to fill vacant positions at both the National Executive Council, restore internal discipline, and prepare vigorously for the 2027 General Election.
