Police arrest 4 suspected robbers, recover homemade firearm in Kibera

Officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Sunday June 1, 2025 apprehended four notorious criminals who had been tormenting residents of Nairobi’s Kibera area.

The suspects were arrested during an intelligence-led operation conducted by officers from the Kibera Police Station.

According to DCI reports, the gang were flushed out of their hideout in the Line Saba area following a well-coordinated operation.

“A swift search at the scene led to the recovery of a homemade firearm, three rounds of 9mm ammunition, six smartphones, two laptops, and a camera lens,” DCI reported.

The suspects are currently in custody and are undergoing processing before their arraignment in court.

Meanwhile, the recovered items have been secured as exhibits in the ongoing investigations.

The latest security operation highlights a growing trend of lawlessness in Nairobi, but police have intensified crackdowns to ensure safety of residents and property.

For instance, a similar multi-agency security operation on March 18, 2025 in Nairobi, led to the arrest of eight suspects involved in a series of attacks and robberies targeting innocent Kenyans along Thika Highway.

This was after a series of robbery incidents were reported along the Thika Superhighway on March 11, 2025.

On the fateful day, the reported daylight robberies and attacks on innocent civilians overshadowed President William Ruto’s tour of Ruaraka and Mathare constituencies, sparking criticism countrywide.

In response, police officers launched a crackdown to apprehend and prosecute those responsible for the criminal acts and ensure public safety is restored.
