Police have arrested a 47 year old ex-convict, Jason Kobia Mucoka, suspected of being behind a series of violent robberies in parts of Meru County, on 11th, March 2026.
The suspect Jason Kobia Mucoka, was apprehended in a joint operation by officers from Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI), the Kenya Police Service(KPS) and administrative police service (APS), following intelligence reports linking him to criminal activities in Mutuati, Laare, and Maua.

According to investigations, Mucoka had recently been released from the prison from a 15 year sentence for the murder of his brother. Police noted that, he returned to crime quickly, allegedly acquiring an illegal fire-arm and recruiting a gang to carry a series of robberies in the Kabachi area while issuing threats to shoot anyone who attempted to challenge him.
Acting on legible source, police officers launched a supervised operation that led to his arrest. During interrogation,, the suspect reportedly led detectives to a hidden cache where the he had hidden the firearm, in a close miraa farm, few meters from his homestead.
Police recovered a Pachet submachine gun loaded with six rounds of 9mm ammunition have been secured as exhibits and will be subjected to ballistic analysis at the national police forensic laboratory to establish whether they were used in previous crimes.
Mucoka remains in custody as he awaits for his arraignment in court on charges including robbery with violence, illegal possessions of a firearm a threats to kill. Detectives noted that investigations are still ongoing as they search for his accomplices believed to be part of the criminal gang, some are already in custody while others still in open space.
The DCI said efforts are underway to trace the origin of the firearm of the firearm and the supply chain of the ammunition as authorities intensify the crackdown on the armed criminal gangs operating in the region. Police are urging the members of the public to report suspicious activities as part of the on going efforts to enhance security in the community.
