Police arrest suspect with Ksh500,000 cash stolen from hotel in Samburu

Police officers on Monday April 1, 2024 arrested a robbery suspect in Samburu and recovered Ksh500,000 stolen from a hotel.

This was after officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Samburu East launched a manhunt after a complaint was raised by the hotel owner on the night of March 31, 2024. 

“Today April 1, 2024, NPS in collaboration with other security agencies arrested one Felix Ayiera, a suspect in a theft case of Ksh. 500,000/= that was reported at Wamba Police Station yesterday.

“The culprit who was aboard a Probox motor vehicle had Ksh.  497,350/= at the time of his arrest at Kalama along Isiolo-Marsabit Highway,” read part of the police report. 

According to the police, the suspect had switched off his phone after looting the money from the hotel.

Meanwhile, police have warned business owners to be careful when handling huge sums of money. 

A similar incident occurred on December 20, 2023, when DCI detectives in conjunction with police officers recovered Ksh300,000 from four suspects in Turkana Central.

The four suspects namely; Stephen Kamire, Erick Odhiambo, Raphael Ndeda Otieno, and Emmanuel Okoth had stolen the money from a parked car in Lodwar.

During the incident, the officers intercepted a getaway vehicle at Sopel along Lodwar -Kitale Highway and arrested the four occupants.
