Police arrested 2 suspects, recover stolen electronics in Mtwapa

In a testament to effective intelligence gathering, officers from Mtwapa Police Station have successfully dismantled a suspected theft operation in Kilifi County. Acting on a tip-off, police swiftly moved on a residential property in the Nguu Tatu area of Kiembeni.

The pre-dawn raid resulted in the arrest of two suspects. Upon searching the premises, officers discovered a large assortment of goods suspected to be stolen.

Electronics recovered include: Speakers, laptops, mobile phones, a 43-inch Vitron TV, and other goods.

The suspects are currently detained at the police station, pending their arraignment in court, where they will face charges related to possession of stolen property.

The Mtwapa haul is not an isolated incident but part of a wider trend where Kenyan police, often aided by public tip-offs, successfully crack down on organized theft rings dealing in electronics and household items.

Some similar cases were reported in April 2025, when detectives in Embakasi arrested two prime suspects linked to a Ksh 17.6 million godown heist. Among the goods recovered were 269 units of 43-inch Hisense televisions and several laptops, along with a motor vehicle used to ferry the stolen items.

In August 2025, an intelligence-led raid in Thika, Kiambu County, in the Mihang’o area led to the recovery of 321 assorted mobile phones, seven laptops, and a music system. The operation began after officers successfully tracked a stolen iPhone 15 to the location.

“Mobile phone snatching is still an issue in the town… We ask residents to be cautious when using their phones along the streets,” a police commander in Thika cautioned, highlighting the nature of the crime.

The National Police Service (NPS) has consistently praised the role of the public in these successful operations. The Mtwapa case, like many others, underscores the effectiveness of citizen-police collaboration.
