A multi agency police operation in Kisumu has led to the recovery of several suspected stolen vehicles and the arrest of two suspects believed to be part of a motor vehicle theft syndicate operating within the county.
The joint operation, conducted by officers from Migosi and Kassagam Police Stations, was based on actionable intelligence that led to coordinated raids at two locations , Khayeko Junction, about two kilometres south of Migosi Police Station, and Aliwa Village, approximately four kilometres north.
During the raids, police recovered 11 vehicles, all lacking valid ownership documents and suspected to have been stolen. The vehicles included:
1. KDE 662F, White Toyota Axio
2. KDJ 631G, Grey Toyota Fielder
3. KCY 973B , White Toyota Axio
4. KDC 692P, Grey Toyota Axio
5. KDG 157H, Grey Toyota Axio
6. KDB 485H , White Toyota Fielder
7. KDH 427F , Grey Toyota Axio
8. KCQ 238G, White Toyota Axio
9. KCM 385N, White Toyota Axio
10. KCH 950M, White Toyota Fielder
11. KCP 831E, Grey Toyota Fielder
A further search at a house in Aliwa Village belonging to Michael Eric Mwanga, 32, yielded additional exhibits including several car radios, number plates, and assorted vehicle parts.
Among the items recovered was a set of plates registered as KDG 157H, the same number found on one of the recovered vehicles at Khayeko Junction, as well as a defaced plate number KDC 629P, which had been cut into four pieces.
Police arrested Michael Eric Mwanga and Peter Andei, 37, who are currently in custody at Migosi Police Station. They face charges of being in possession of suspected stolen motor vehicles.
The operation’s main suspect, Evans Otieno Meda, remains at large as police intensify efforts to track him down.
According to Migosi OCS, all exhibits have been photographed and an inventory signed by the suspects. The recovered vehicles are being detained at Migosi Police Station as investigations continue, with the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) expected to verify their ownership details.
The operation, police say, is ongoing as efforts continue to dismantle the wider vehicle theft network believed to be operating within Kisumu and neighbouring counties.
