The National Police Service (NPS) has commended officers at the Kapsabet Police Station in Nandi County for an act of humanitarian service, after they raised funds to secure the education of a needy student who sought their help.
The commendation follows the events of January 28, when 16-year-old Sandra Cherono walked 10 kilometres to the station, presenting officers with her admission letter to Ndalat Gaa Girls’ High School and an appeal for assistance with unpaid fees.
In a statement on February 1, 2026, the NPS highlighted the swift response led by Nandi County Police Commander Samuel Mukuusi, where officers collectively covered a full year’s tuition and provided the teenager with a uniform, mattress, trunk, and other essentials before ensuring her admission.
“This act stands as a powerful example of community policing in action,” the NPS stated. “The officers answered this moment not with indifference but with empathy and action, embodying the true spirit of service rooted in humanity, dignity, and care.”
NPS further emphasized that the initiative reinforces the core principle that positive engagement builds essential public trust.
“When officers and citizens trust one another, police stations become places of hope, support, and partnership,” the statement read.
Commander Mukuusi, reflecting on the national recognition earlier, had said the officers were simply fulfilling a broader duty.
NPS also shared photographs of the officers loading donated supplies for the now-uniformed student.
The National Police Service concluded that the officers’ conduct shapes a future where the police and the public work hand in hand for the good of all, setting a benchmark for stations nationwide.
