Police in Nairobi have intensified their crackdown on illicit alcohol, recovering and destroying over 10,000 litres of kangara during a raid in Kangemi, Dagoretti Sub-County.

The Tuesday operation, led by officers from the Nairobi Region, also saw the recovery of 50 kilograms of jaggery, five packets of yeast catalyst, and thirteen cartons of second-generation liquor.

Authorities say the exhibits have been secured as investigations continue to trace and arrest the suspects behind the illegal trade.

According to the National Police Service (NPS), the operation is part of a sustained nationwide effort to eliminate illicit brews and second-generation alcohol, which have been blamed for endangering public health and fueling insecurity in communities.

In a statement, NPS urged the public to cooperate with law enforcement by reporting suspicious activities linked to the illegal alcohol trade.

“Members of the public are encouraged to support the ongoing operations by sharing timely information through the toll-free numbers 999, 911, 112, #FichuaKwaDCI 0800 722 203, or via WhatsApp on 0709 570 000,” the statement read.

The police further reaffirmed their commitment to protecting Kenyans from harmful drinks and dismantling networks profiting from the illicit alcohol business.
