Police officers and a multi-agency team in the Nairobi Region conducted a targeted operation against illicit alcohol in Soweto’s Duka Moja area, Kayole Sub-County.
During the raid, officers destroyed around 15,000 litres of illicit brew and shut down the brewing den permanently.
Meanwhile, authorities are actively pursuing the suspects behind the illegal business, with further raids planned to dismantle similar networks across the county.
In a similar case, police officers from the Nairobi Region conducted an intelligence-led operation in Zimmerman, Kasarani Sub-County, targeting illicit brew (chang’aa) manufacturing dens.
More than 2,000 liters of kangara and chang’aa were seized and destroyed.
The operation continues, with the aim of pursuing and apprehending the manufacturers and distributors of the illicit brew.
This follows a joint operation by officers from the Kianjai Police Post, the area chief, and other national government officers that was conducted in Kianjai, Meru County, targeting the sale and distribution of illicit alcohol.
The crackdown resulted in the arrest of one individual found in possession of 380 litres of “Muna”. The suspect was placed in custody pending processing and court arraignment.
At the same time, the National Police Service expressed commitment to intensify its efforts to combat the production and consumption of unregulated alcoholic products, which endanger public health and safety.
Earlier, Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen had vowed that authorities would not relent in the fight against the menace.
Murkomen had initially directed National Government Administration Officers (NGAOs) and the National Police Service (NPS) to launch targeted operations against illicit brew dens and apprehend those responsible for the production and distribution of illegal and adulterated alcohol.
